This workshop is intended for K-8 schools that have implemented PBIS and are looking to update and energize their Tier 1 program. The session will review whats new in PBIS and how do current laws and trends affect PBIS practices.

It is recommended that schools participating in the Wayne RESA PBIS grant send teams to this half day session and then take time to debrief and develop an action plan for their school.

Wayne RESA"s Special Education New Teacher Academy has been created to provide quality professional development experiences that will enhance your professional growth and knowledge base with special education practices, issues, procedures and forms.  At the same time, it can help you meet the state required hours of professional development you need to attain in your first three years of teaching.  Participants must be first and second year teachers and currently working in a Wayne County LEA/PSA special education classrooms.

 Session 1: (9/27/17): Special Education Forms and Procedures

Session 2: (11/15/17): Specialized Instruction

Session 3: (1/17/18): Classroom Management

Session 4: (2/21/18): IEP and Progress Monitoring

Session 5: (4/18/18): Collaboration with General Education

Local Districts

With a total population of approximately 1.8 million, Wayne County is the most populous county in the State of Michigan and the 18th most populous county in the nation. There are 33 school districts in 43 Wayne County communities serving approximately 226,000 students. Additionally, there are 108 Public School Academies (PSAs) serving 64,000 students for a combined total of approximately 290,000 students in public schools county-wide. .
